Omar Salazar
Before joining the 1-800-GOT-JUNK? team, my career began at a large retail department store. Working part-time while balancing both day and night classes to graduate high school early, I did everything from customer service to janitorial work, even pushing carts! Growing up in a single-parent household, I learned to appreciate the value of hard work and to never take things for granted.
My journey with 1-800-GOT-JUNK? began out of sheer fascination. Living across the street from a transfer station, I often watched the junk trucks and was intrigued by the organization. An encounter with a truck driver at a gas station piqued my interest further. His passion for the job and the impact he made on people's lives inspired me. After finding an application online, what started as captivation quickly turned into my career.
As the Director of Operations, what drives me most is the continuous development of my team and myself. I focus on helping my peers learn and grow every day. The positive impact we have on our truck team members' lives and the familial relationships we build fill me with joy. Our culture feels like one big family, where everyone can count on each other. Knowing the difference we make in our customers' lives during stressful times is incredibly fulfilling. Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my fiance, Heather, and my family. I make it a priority to have coffee or breakfast with my mother every weekend. As I prepare to become a father, I am thrilled about this new journey of family I’m about to embark on.
I cherish the camaraderie and passion within our team, and I’m excited to get our team involved in more community activities. We already work with several non-profit organizations and local donation businesses to recycle and donate items we collect. Our truck team members always do their part, actively recycling metal and cardboard throughout the day.
The team is quick to adapt to any situation, constantly striving to improve performance and customer experience. We embrace new ideas and maintain a "Happy to Help" philosophy, ensuring we provide the best service throughout the Chicagoland area! We couldn’t be prouder to be part of our local community.
